Romney likes The North Face. Investors Not so much

Strong sales of Timberland boots weren't enough to offset investor concerns about a slowdown at VF Corp.'s North Face brand of outerwear.

Call it the curse of the GOP? CNNMoney did a piece last week noting how Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan have been both photographed wearing North Face jackets on the campaign trail.

But even though these heroes of the red states seemed to be endorsing the comfort of The North Face's fleece, investors in North Face's parent company were seeing red after disappointing sales.

VF Corp. (VFC), which owns The North Face as well as the Timberland boots brand and Lee and Wrangler jeans, sank as much as 7% Monday morning following its earnings report Timberlnad roll-top boots sale. The stock was down about 4% in late morning trading.

Although VF's profits were better than expected, investors seemed spooked by the fact that revenues missed estimates by a tiny margin.

That had some traders on StockTwits worried about future sales for VF, as well as rivals like Ralph Lauren (RL) and PVH (PVH) Timberland 6 Inch Boots, the owner of the Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein lines of apparel.

retail_guru: Two bones to pick in VF Q. North Face sales slowed from +16% in Q2 to +8% in Q3. Still,$VFC expects a pick-up to 13-15% in Q4 $RL $PVH

Shares of Ralph Lauren and PVH both dipped Monday as well.

But one trader pointed out that it wasn't all doom and gloom for VF. The company raised its dividend and did report solid gains in its footwear unit Timberland euro sprint boots.

tickertutor: $VFC ... tremendous growth from Timberland segment

Good point. And when you look closely at VF's report Timberland Mens, the company also did raise its outlook for the year. So perhaps the stock was falling Monday because expectations were unreasonably high, and not because of concerns about fundamentals. After all, VF Corp. has been a phenomenal stock as of late. Shares are up more than 26% in 2012.

Paul Smith left school at the age of 15, a member of Beeston Road Club[2] his only ambition was to become a racing cyclist until his father hauled him off to work at a clothing warehouse. Smith had no real interest in his work during his first two years there except for the cycle journey to and from his home.[1] A terrible cycling accident put an end to his cycling ambitions, and it was only then that Smith's career in fashion design began. He enjoyed his job and had forgotten everything about cycling.[3][4] Six months in hospital followed and during this time Smith made some new friends. After leaving hospital he arranged to meet them all at a local pub that was popular with art students paul smith sale. It was then that Paul Smith knew he wanted to be part of this colourful world of ideas and excitement.
Paul Smith started to take evening classes for tailoring with Gordon Valentine Tipton in Nottinghamshire who showed him how to cut cloth as well as the basics. Later on Paul Smith joined Lincroft Kilgour in Savile Row after being spotted by chairman Harold Tillman, where his designs were worn by celebrities including footballer George Best. With the help of his then girlfriend (now wife) Pauline Denyer, who was an RCA fashion graduate paul smith multi colour stripe bags, and a small amount of savings, he managed to open his first shop 10 Byard Lane, Nottingham in 1970. By 1976 Paul showed his first menswear collection in Paris, under the Paul Smith label. He gradually expanded the retail business, being the first fashion brand to open on Floral Street in London's Covent Garden in 1979, where his shop offered an eclectic combination of clothes and 'finds' for men which reflected his own magpie personality.
The international growth of his business began and most famously in Japan, where his British designs have been particularly popular,[citation needed] while he expanded into three adjacent stores on Floral Street. A converted town-house in Notting Hill, London opened in 1998 and is now his flagship shop, with the company's operational heart remaining between Nottingham and London.[5] In 1998 Paul showed his first women's collection at London Fashion Week, the women's mainline collection continues to this day.
Since 2007 paul smith shoulder bags, Smith has opened shops in Dubai, Bangalore, Leeds, Antwerp, Los Angeles and another shop in London, in addition to a brand new warehouse building in Nottingham paul smith wallets.
Paul Smith remains fully involved in the business, designing clothes, choosing fabrics, approving the shop locations and overseeing every development within the company.[citation needed] He has showrooms in London, Paris, Milan, New York and Tokyo. At the moment he is working to design the London Olympics posters and signs.
The success of Smith's business may be attributed to his understanding of his dual roles of both designer and retailer; the success of his designs to his combination of the classic and the quirky.[6] and which allows men to buy relatively traditional (and hence commercially popular) designs that offer a 'twist' of individuality.[7] In September 2010 Smith opened his first standalone womenswear store in Mayfair, London

In talks with founder of long successful retailer, Psyche

The North of England's leading retailer, Psyche, celebrates its 30th year in business in 2012. They stock brands such as Ted Baker, Alexander McQueen, Paul Smith and Gucci to name but a few. The independent clothing retailer is marking the occasion on 27 September 2012 with a lavish party at the store, which is based in Middlesbrough. Psyche is recording its highest level of sales for a decade, in part due to investment into its online shopping portal which receives over 200 paul smith sale,000 hits per month. We caught up with Cochrane to find out more of the back story.

Why do you think you’ve remained such a successful retailer over such a long period and a fashion landscape that has seen plenty of changes over the years?
Part of the philosophy of Psyche is ‘Kaisen’, the Japanese practice of constant improvement and by following this ethos we have ensured the store has remained fresh, interesting and relevant. The most recent testament to this is the store’s current series of major re-fittings, which keeps it new and cutting edge, whilst continuing to present the very best in customer service excellence. We have always reacted to our customers and what they want and have come to expect – they have responded with their continued loyalty to the store and our brands. And whether it be 30 years ago, when I founded the business, or today’s climate, my passion for the industry has never dwindled and I think this has been integral in seeing Psyche through.

Opinion I Love That I Can Hate These

A mostly pink fur upper and entirely unpractical Teddy Bear sit atop the tongue of this high-cut adidas Originals silhouette, making it one of the most nonsensical shoes of the year by a landslide Adidas Jeremy Scott Bear. Probably not for me. And I absolutely love that I can even hate these. The sheer fact that Jeremy Scott was allowed the freedom to create in an overly conservative and restrictive retail environment is nothing short of awesome adidas originals jeremy scott wings.

No matter the outcome, and regardless of whether or not you or I like the finished product, the raw creativity and energy poured into the project makes them a huge success. There's no briefed-in visible technology and certainly no regard for whatever the term "consumer expectation" adidas obyo js wings; might mean.

Just room to have fun. In the latest sneak peak of what's to come from one of the many successful Originals by Originals capsule collections from adidas, Scott steps even further into new territory as a designer. People thought these were crazy enough, but the creatively charged category continues to give its partners room to design as they see fit and make good on true collaboration. In theory, the "Teddy Bears" dubbed adidas Originals by Jeremy Scott model might seem like an awful idea Adidas Jeremy Scott Arrow Wedge, but I'll continually welcome new ideas and boundary-pushing concepts over more of the same any day of the week.

Nigel Fisher, caretaker of the world’s children

Nigel Fisher, a globe- and fox-trotting humanitarian, will not be able to answer this booty call in Toronto.

Not with 54 dead and tens of thousands homeless in Haiti from Hurricane Sandy Timberland Custom Boots, vital crops destroyed by the storm’s voracious winds, and the country still struggling to house 350,000 victims from the catastrophic 2010 earthquake.

So Thursday’s unveiling of the Canadian’s battered, size 11 Timberland boots at the Bata Shoe Museum — footgear worn over two decades as he delivered aid to nearly 1 million children in the world’s most desperate places — will proceed without him.

Right now, Haiti needs the hand-picked United Nations envoy more than a news conference in downtown Toronto does timberland 6 inch fur boots.

“I don’t think we even appeared on the radar of the international media,” says the 65-year-old of the Haitians who were killed, &ldquo Timberland Fur Boots sale;disappeared” or displaced in Sandy’s rampage.

“My wife (Patsy) just happens to be in Toronto. Maybe she’ll bless my boots for me.”

Fisher was at his Port-au-Prince office on Wednesday at 6:30 a.m., juggling yet another set of crisis logistics in the hard-luck country, where he has overseen earthquake relief and recovery since 2010. A call to the Haitian prime minister was on his agenda because, in addition to handling the newest human casualties from Sandy, a food shortage now looms.

A drought early in the year stunted crops before they had a chance to mature. Then, a damaging summer storm reduced harvest estimates by about 40 per cent &mdash timberland sale; a worrisome situation even before the massive hurricane struck last week.

On its part, Giordano, a casual wear chain with over 1,300 outlets in China, logged a 4% sales decline in the opening six months of the year, and recently waited six months before buying new stock.

VF Corp. (VFC), which owns The North Face as well as the Timberland boots brand and Lee and Wrangler jeans, sank as much as 7% Monday morning following its earnings report. The stock was down about 4% in late morning trading.

Although VF's profits were better than expected, investors seemed spooked by the fact that revenues missed estimates by a tiny margin.

That had some traders on StockTwits worried about future sales for VF Timberland mens, as well as rivals like Ralph Lauren (RL) and PVH (PVH), the owner of the Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein lines of apparel.

In talks with founder of long successful retailer, Psyche

The North of England's leading retailer, Psyche, celebrates its 30th year in business in 2012. They stock brands such as Ted Baker, Alexander McQueen, Paul Smith and Gucci to name but a few. The independent clothing retailer is marking the occasion on 27 September 2012 with a lavish party at the store paul smith bags uk, which is based in Middlesbrough. Psyche was also recognised earlier this year for its contribution to the industry when managing director, Steve Cochrane, was invited to St. James Palace to meet with Prince Charles and the British Fashion Council. Psyche is recording its highest level of sales for a decade, in part due to investment into its online shopping portal which receives over 200,000 hits per month. We caught up with Cochrane to find out more of the back story.

Why do you think you’ve remained such a successful retailer over such a long period and a fashion landscape that has seen plenty of changes over the years?
Part of the philosophy of Psyche is ‘Kaisen&rsquo paul smith multi colour stripe bags;, the Japanese practice of constant improvement and by following this ethos we have ensured the store has remained fresh, interesting and relevant. The most recent testament to this is the store’s current series of major re-fittings paul smith bags, which keeps it new and cutting edge, whilst continuing to present the very best in customer service excellence. We have always reacted to our customers and what they want and have come to expect – they have responded with their continued loyalty to the store and our brands. And whether it be 30 years ago, when I founded the business, or today’s climate, my passion for the industry has never dwindled and I think this has been integral in seeing Psyche through paul smith holdall bags.

Signed, sealed and delivered, Paul Smith's stamp collection

His creations are more commonly found paraded on fashion catwalks or on hangers in boutiques around the world.

However paul smith luggage, the British designer Sir Paul Smith is not a man to be confined by genre, as reflected in his latest creative endeavor — a collection of stamps.

A series of seven stamps have been designed for the Isle of Man Post Office by Smith to mark this summer's London Olympic and Paralympic Games paul smith mini car bags.

Currently on display at the Paul Smith Space Gallery in Tokyo's Aoyama district, the exhibited stamps are encircled by dozens of flags of the nations competing at the Olympics, lining the surrounding walls.

Each of the designs is devoted to a competitive sport — archery, road-bike cycling, swimming paul smith purse, tennis, track race, sailing and rowing — and they are accompanied in the gallery by close-up detail shots in tinted photography.

The stamps — small, square and made of paper — clearly inhabit a different dimension from Smith's iconic fashion creations. But upon closer inspection, his signature style can be gleaned from the graphic designs' clean, bold lines, stripes and circles. The harmonious color palette, too, give them a mix of early vintage Olympian with the modern.

There is the light turquoise water of the swimming pool, with red, white and indigo-blue lines; the perfectly spherical tennis ball against a striped lawn of grassy greens; the circular lines of the archer's bull's-eye target; and the clean lines of the rear wheel of a bicycle set against the swerve of the track.

"l looked at posters and artwork from previous Olympics and realized I wanted the stamps to be positive, powerful, colorful and, above all, optimistic," said Smith in a recent interview.

The apparent simplicity of the diminutive designs, however, belies a string of challenges posed by the fact that stamp design is strictly governed by rules and regulations.

"Actually the job was quite huge and I worked on the project for about a year," he explained. "Because stamps are governed by law, you have to incorporate certain things: the Queen's head in certain size, the Olympic logo, the price. And then, in addition to those restrains (rules), stamps are very collectable paul smith uk, so I had to design gift sets and collectors' items."

The stamps were clearly a labor of love for the designer who has also provided, to accompany the exhibited works, a text describing his childhood passion for cycling.

"My life changed at the age of 11 when my father bought me a pale blue Paramount racing bike," he explained, before adding, with reference to the upcoming Olympics, "The new London (cycling) track looks amazing. I imagine it will be a very fast surface and also provide a great atmosphere for the audience."

Brit on Brit Paul Smith and John Lobb

If Summer 2010 was all about denim on denim, Fall 2012′s big new thing is British on British &ndash paul smith sale; design houses, we mean. Paul Smith and John Lobb have announced a collaboration that will see the two brands join their expertise in design and craftsmanship to create limited edition shoes.

The most intriguing part about this “marriage” of brands is the apparent clash between design philosophies adhered to by each label. John Lobb is all about the moneyed, old-world look while Paul Smith thrives in bold, adventurous creations, both in cut and colour. What in the world would the final product look like?

Well, the collaboration has already made its debut on the Paris catwalk at the Paul Smith Spring Summer 2013 show on July 1st and will be available worldwide from John Lobb stores and selected Paul Smith shops from September 2012.

The press statement says, “For act one of this new partnership, Paul Smith brings a punctuation of colour paul smith bags, somewhat a signature of his, to three iconic John Lobb styles, selected for both their heritage and contemporary appeal. Rather than changing the fundamentals of these fine shoes, the addition of colour respects the original understated style yet brings new life and just the right amount of fun. In menswear, a little tweak goes a long way.&rdquo paul smith tote bags;

In short, all Paul Smith did to John Lobb’s shoes were do them in a bright colour that falls within the PS rainbow. This is the reason why we now have regal purple Willoughby oxfords bearing John Lobb’s signature paul smith shoulder bags. Yay or nay? We would pass and stick to either Paul Smith or John Lobb, but we’re sure there’s someone out there who would appreciate questionably-hued loafers.

"I'm very curious and being childlike is vital in our industry."

Paul's range is truly staggering, but while success can be fleeting his 40-year career is underpinned by his ability to engage with any subject with a childlike sense of wonder. That said, while Paul may have a childlike approach, you could never accuse him of being na?ve. Savvy business decisions underpin the whole of his operation and allow him to work with the creative freedom that defines his label.

"One of my strengths has been to say no over the years", says Paul. You can imagine that one of the things he has said no to is large-scale corporate involvement in his brand. Young designers beware: investment brings money and security, but it also brings bureaucracy, restriction, and a potential loss of control.

"One of the points about fashion", says Paul, "is that it should really be instinctive and very spontaneous. Real spontaneity can't be accomplished if there is too much to consider – what about brand image? What about the corporate strategy? Going back to my shop in Los Angeles, that is the opposite to a lot of my other shops, but because I am independent I could just go: 'let's make a pink box'. That's it paul smith tote bags!"

But while independence has afforded Paul freedom, he is as much a slave to sales and profits as any other businessman and when it comes to making money, Paul repeats one word: balance. He goes on to demonstrate the balancing act of the modern fashion designer with what looks like a kind of quaint folk dance: he holds one hand out in front of him and keeps the other tucked behind his back.

"Real spontaneity can't be accomplished if there is too much to consider"

"That [he waves the hand in front of him] is the purity of what you really want to do, and that [he waves the other hand behind his back] is earning money to survive so you don't compromise that [the hand in front]."

"With Paul Smith", he says, continuing the thought, "we have a jeans collection that sells £32 million a year and I have a mainline collection that sells £10 million. That [the jeans collection/front hand] pays for 180 people in this building and 1,000 staff in Europe. If you have one without the other it wouldn't work, but if you can get the balance between the two, then it really works."

Paul leaves you with no illusion that businesses live and die by their balance sheets and that a young designer today must, at least, have a working knowledge of the industry – he has once quipped that the main reason for his success is that he knows that VAT means Value Added Tax and not vodka and tonic. Yet, Paul is also living proof that lasting success depends on more than just business smarts: his is an empire of character, built on the humour, charm and enthusiasm of the man who sits at its centre.

One of the stories about Paul that has become something of a legend is that he used to carry around a miniature briefcase train set that he would break out during particularly long and protracted business meetings in Japan, and, sure enough, there it sits in the corner of his office.

"Things like that helped in those early days", he says, "having things that stuck in people's minds. This idea that you must create a memorable moment is one that Paul constantly returns to throughout our talk, he has even developed his own terminology for it. Ask any Paul Smith employee about "the squirt of lemon" and they will smile back with a knowing look.

"What I'm trying to say is", says Paul, explaining, "you know when you might go on a lovely holiday and everything's perfect and then on the last night you're putting some lemon on your fish and some juice goes in your girlfriend's eye, then the thing she remembers about the holiday is that she got lemon in her eye. You've got to have something that people go away with and remember."

It is an interesting idea, and Paul has been aiming squirts of lemon at people's eyes for nearly 40 years. You can see it in the quirky details of his clothing – a bold print fabric used for the pocket lining or a single gold button at the collar – and in the curiosities he sells in his shops: vinyl, posters, or a vintage pen knife.

Much of the zest of Paul's character comes from being British, making him a particularly apt role model for the young designers of London Fashion Week, but what does British Fashion mean to him?

"I think that British Fashion Week is a goldmine of talent and openness."

"I think that if you could put Britishness in a jar", says Paul, "it would be just a sort of inventiveness, a creativeness, and a quirkiness that is all embracing. I think that British Fashion Week is a goldmine of talent and openness." Set against the rigid structure of, for example, Italy, where people tend to follow tradition, British fashion, like the country itself, is defined by diversity. "I think we just shoot from the hip and all sorts of stuff comes out" says Paul.

In any ordinary instance it would be hard to quantify intangible qualities like character and personality, to measure their importance, luckily there isn't too much that's ordinary about Paul Smith and the physical evidence of his charm can be found all around his office: alongside the books, bikes, and bric-a-brac you find heartfelt letters and handmade objects sent by Paul's admirers from far-flung corners of the world.

"I've got a Belgian girl who's been writing to me since she was 11, she's 16 now", says Paul. "Her first letter said, 'I don't like fashion but I like you', and she'd never met me. Where does that come from?" Paul has another secret admirer who has been anonymously sending him unwrapped objects in the post for the past twenty years paul smith bags; Paul shows us a tree branch, a sunflower, and a manikin bust, each peppered with brightly coloured postage stamps. There are so many of these objects that Paul recently put on an exhibition of the objects in Singapore.

"I've got a Belgian girl who's been writing to me since she was 11, she's 16 now. Her first letter said, 'I don't like fashion but I like you'. Where does that come from?"

In another corner of the room there is an untidy pile of cycling jerseys that Paul is particularly proud of. His love of cycling is no secret and he picks one particular jersey out for special mention. "This is from Fabian Cancellara," he says, "the Swiss national champion. He was on the Champs Elysee on the last day of the Tour de France, and he went up to David Miller [the team GB cyclist], put his hand in his pocket, pulled this jersey out and said: 'this is for Paul' - in the race!"

For each of these stories there are ten more that we don't have the time here to tell, but each is an example of the tremendous emotional response that Paul Smith evokes. As he showed us around his office, moving from one amazing object to the next, it was hard not to be moved by the goodwill and affection loaded into each object. You can't imagine, for example, strangers sending Karl Lagerfeld a handmade nativity scene crafted from peanuts (this actually happened), but this is all part and parcel for Paul Smith.

Our final question was a key one: do you think a young British designer coming through today could emulate your success?

"If they were patient they could", says Paul. That might not be the answer that the hungry young designers of London Fashion Week wanted to hear paul smith mini car bags, but it is the truth.

" paul smith purse;Andy Warhol said that everyone has their fifteen minutes", says Paul. "and the more I think about that little sentence I find it's so true. So many people only have that fifteen minutes of success and don't have 40 hours."

With a little patience and a great deal of hard work, Paul Smith has extended his 15 minutes to 40 years, and long may it continue.

PAUL SMITH ON FASHION 1

PAUL SMITH ON FASHION
As the men's element of London Fashion Week gets underway with the launch of an exciting new initiative, London Collections: Men, we visited the office of one of Britain's most successful fashion designers, Sir Paul Smith, to gain some invaluable insight into the complex world of fashion.

We have some choice quotes and tips from Paul here, matched by images from his amazing office, and then below is an in-depth interview with the irrepressible designer, which delves into the details of his success and ask the question: could a young British designer coming through today follow in Paul's illustrious footsteps?

At oki-ni we have always supported exciting new fashion talent - British talent especially. Like proud parents watching their children move from school, to college, to university, we have seen the likes of Christopher Shannon and J.W. Anderson move from the MAN and NEW GEN initiatives to the London Fashion Week schedule and then out into the world.

For young designers there is no guaranteed formula for success, but if you are just starting out in the rag trade you could do a lot worse than following the example of Sir Paul Smith. The 65-year-old knight of the realm is a walking, talking instruction manual, a living blueprint for anyone who has aspirations of one day seeing their name hanging from a swing tag or on the London Fashion Week schedule.

Since opening his first shop in Nottingham back in 1970 - financed by his own savings – Britain's best known fashion designer has slowly but surely built an empire that exports British eccentricity and Savile Row craft to the world -"Savile Row meets Mr Bean", as he once called it. Yet, with shops in 72 countries and sales approaching £200 million last year, there's nothing slapstick about Paul's operation and his success is beyond dispute. What's more, if you ask him, he's happy to share exactly how he achieved it.

"Keep your feet on the ground paul smith bags sale, understand your trade, live within your means, and grow carefully", says Paul with a smile. It all sounds so simple and, in truth, it might just be. People talk about a "secret to success" as if there is a trick or a formula that successful people are privy to and they are not, but the reality is that success is a by-product of hard work and passion; if your goal is to be successful then you're looking at things in reverse.

"Unfortunately, so many of us are informed by success these days", says Paul. "We're so informed by what other people are doing – this footballer earns this much, that guy's got this car." These, however paul smith multi colour stripe bags, are unwelcome distractions. "Fashion is about today and tomorrow", says Paul. "Nobody cares how good you used to be. You've really got to know your stuff basically."

"Fashion is about today and tomorrow. Nobody cares how good you used to be."

The great thing about Paul paul smith holdall bags, however, is that he isn't content to just know his own stuff, he has a rapacious appetite for stuff of all kinds. We asked him what job title would appear on his business card below his name: designer, creative director, CEO? "Does stuff", he replies, with a humble grin.

Paul's office is testament to how much stuff he does do. If a man's office is an extension of his character then Paul's is an enchanting jumble of organized chaos. A long central meeting table is flanked on all sides by shelves and bookcases loaded with books on every subject - from art to advertising paul smith shoulder bags. Stacked on top of the books you find objects and curiosities beyond number, collected by Paul on his travels and sent to him by admirers and friends from across the globe (more on this later). For example, "Patti Smith corner", as Paul calls it, is dedicated to things sent by his friend the celebrated musician, photographer, and poet, whose scope is nearly as broad as Paul's.

At oki-ni we often say that mess is a by-product of hard work, but in Paul's office it is a by-product of limitless curiosity - an attitude exemplified by the question that Paul has been asking for much of his 40-year career: why?

"Why shouldn't I do that? Why's that man fat? Why's that man tall? Why can't I have a building in bright pink? What's the problem with that?" Paul says in rapid succession. That's why I suddenly have my Los Angeles shop as a bright pink cube, or I design a bicycle, or I take photographs, or I write a sports column for Le Monde every month and I don't know anything about sport; I've lectured at Apple's headquarters for Jonathan Ive and I never use a computer."

Mughal-e-Azam. It appealed to me visually. I didn’t know about it, but just liked the imagery.

Are you planning to do something with them?
I’m not too sure what I’m going to do with them. If you see my room in London, you’ll realise that I buy things like that all the time.

Read a lot about the special room. Tell us about it.
I’ve got enormous collections of everything. I enjoy collecting anything that’s just beautiful, or awful, or cheap, or expensive. I just like the mix. The graphics can be so useful for my jeans or tees. I even have around 5000 books in my room, countless CDs and robots.

It’s been described as a mess. Would ‘creative mess’ be the word for it?
Yes, it is. I tend to know where things are paul smith tote bags, which is quite cool. And I have a very big table in the middle. It’s a real mess paul smith bags, but I get to know if even the alignment changes.

Heard you are working on stamps for the upcoming Olympics too?
Yes, I was asked by the post office to design some stamps for the Olympics. I wanted to make some optimistic designs in cheerful colours — easy to understand, very graphic. I worked on it for almost a year paul smith holdall bags. It’s a legal thing, you can’t get it wrong — there was the Olympic logo, even the Queen’s head had to be in a certain size. I didn’t understand how fanatical stamp collecting is, till I worked on this.

Is it true that you’re obsessed with rabbits?
It’s totally false (laughs). In the early ’80s, I was on a trip going from London to my hometown Nottingham and I was with an American friend. I was day-dreaming when he asked me why I was looking so intently out of the window? I said, ‘I’m looking for rabbits because if I see one, my collection will sell well.’ I just made that up. He sent me a papier mache rabbit when he returned to New York, and spread the word. Since then I get around 20 rabbits a week (laughs). I should have said diamonds instead of rabbits!
